Gilles Munier has led Geogreen since its creation in 2007. He has a dual degree in engin-eering and finance (Diplôme d'Ingénieur) from the Paris School of Mines (Mines ParisTech/ ENSMP). He began his professional experience in the field of exploration and production with the Total Group, which he joined in 1981. Following Total, Gilles continued for more than 15 years in this domain, working for several energy companies (both French and American) from numerous global locations. He joined the underground hydrocarbon storage industry in 2000 and began managing CCS-related projects after he joined Géostock in 2006. As Geogreen’s CEO, Gilles has rapidly increased the company’s global presence, operating budget, and project portfolio - with clients/contacts and various levels of activity taking place in Europe, North and South America, and the Middle East, as well as international clients such as the IEA-GHG, GCCSI, and UNIDO. Beyond his work as CEO, Gilles brings specialized knowledge in geosciences, economic analysis, corporate strategy, and financial forecasting to the Geogreen team, all of which are essential for CCS project design and development. He has served as a speaker on CCS-related topics for numerous events across the world including many Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) conferences and workshops.

He has extensive experience in facilitating collaborative projects on CCS at the national, European and international levels. He is trained as a chemical engineer and has a PhD in Petroleum Sciences from the Ecole du Pétrole et des Moteurs (IFP School) and joined IFP (now IFPEN) after completing his doctorate. In 1998 he was selected as the IFP project leader in charge of environmental studies and began directing their R&D projects on CCS in 2000. As such he was involved in a significant number of European CCS projects, where he engaged in proposal tendering, project management, European and industrial project funding procurement, and European Commission personnel and mechanism development.  He has serves as the project coordinator for various EU-funded CCS projects, including CASTOR (a 16M€ budget project with 30 partners from 11 countries). He has served as the French representative to the US-DOE founded Carbon Storage Leadership Forum (CSLF) since 2005 and is a member of the EU-ZEP Technology Platform’s technology task force. He has appeared as a keynote speaker for various conferences, among them the 2007 CCS summit in Paris, the 2008 CSLF meetings in Saudi Arabia and in South Africa. He joined IFP’s reservoir engineering department In 1991 where he worked on numerous CCS-related projects, with focuses ranging from multiphase flow to reactive transport modeling and CO2 storage. He has been involved in nearly all of IFP’s CO2 storage projects since 2000 and as such was the project coordinator of the French 2001-2002 RTPG projects on CO2 sequestration in oil reservoirs and after 2006 he served as the sub-project coordinator (focused on CO2 geological storage modeling) for several European projects (i.e. CO2REMOVE, DYNAMIS, & GEOCAPACITY). In addition, he has taught reservoir simulation courses for the IFP School and initiated the Reactive Modeling Course for CO2GeoNet.
